HEALTHY CLUB POLICY
Morley Cricket Club (inc)
Smoking
Club recognises that smoking and passice smoking are hazardous to health.
We will ensure a smoke free environment by:
» Ensuring all areas of the club, including the change rooms, offices, the bar, and all club functions are smoke-free.
» Not selling tobacco products on the premises.
» Prominently displaying no-smoking signage.
Alcohol
Club will promote the responsible adult use of alcohol by:
» Discouraging excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol eg. happy hours, drinking competitions.
» Ensuring alcohol is not served to any person who is intoxicated or under the age of 18 years.
» Promoting lower pricing on low and non-alcoholic drinks and providing free unbottled water.
» Providing responsible server training for paid staff and volunteers who serve alcoholic drinks in our bar.
Other Drugs
Club discourages the use of medications in respect of injury/recovery that would enable a participant to compete where they would not otherwise have been able.
The use of illicit drugs and performance enhancing drugs is not permitted by any Club members or patrons.
We will adopt and be guided by the Sports Medicine Australia policy on the administration of medications by non-medical personnel.
Sun Protection
Club will take all reasonable steps to address sun safe practices by:
» Scheduling activities outside the hours of 10am to 3pm.
» Ensuring adequate shade is provided.
» Following The Cancer Council Western Australia guidelines for SunSmart clothing and hats.
» Providing or selling sunscreen to members and participants.
Sports Safety
Club will encourage all members to adopt practices that seek to prevent injury by:
» Encouraging warm-up, stretching and cool-down as an important component of playing and training.
» Promoting the use of protective equipment including body padding, mouthguards, suitable clothing and footwear.
» Providing safe playing surfaces, first aid equipment.
» Providing accredited First Aiders/Sports Trainers where possible.
» Ensuring adequate public liability and player insurance for all members.
» Encouraging all players with a prior or current injury to seek professional advice from a sports medicine professional and be fully rehabilitated before returning to play.
Healthy Eating
Club recognises the importance of good nutrition for sports performance by:
» Ensuring when food is provided, healthy alternatives in accordance with the Dietary Guidelines for Australian Adults are available.
» Promoting good nutrition and healthy eating messages.
Review
Adult players, coaches and club members are expected to set appropriate examples and act as role models for junior club members.
The club will make information available to club members and families to promote healthy lifestyles.
Breaches of the policy will be addressed through the Club Committee.

SPORTSAFE POLICY FOR
Morley Cricket Club (inc)
The safety of all athletes is our primary concern.
We will actively seek to promote, encourage and support SportSafe strategies for all training and competition sessions.
Where possible Morley Cricket club (MCC) will:
» Allocate resources for developing, promoting and implementing sports safety initiatives (eg. replacement of club safety equipment, injury prevention/first aid training for club personnel).
» Appoint a sports safety coordinator position on the committee.
» Ensure that sports safety is a regular agenda item at our club committee meetings.
» Ensure that there is adequate public liability and player insurance.
» Adopt Sports Medicine Australia's policies and guidelines on:
» Warm up/Cool down
» Blood/ infectious diseases
» Dehydration/fluid replacement
» Hot weather
» Administering medications
» Encourage senior athletes, coaches, referees/umpires, officials and parents to be sports safety role models and to be aware of their roles and responsibilities.
» Advise athletes (and parents) about the SportSafe Policy at registration and encourage them to comply with it.
» Ensure athletes complete a pre-season medical history form, and that injury records are maintained throughout the season.
» Ensure players/members participate in planned pre-season training programs prior to the commencement of the competition season.
» Promote SportSafe strategies through the website, posters, newsletters, brochures and over the public address system at competitions.
» Ensure that an 'emergency management plan' is implemented. This includes:
» appointment of emergency co-ordinator
» access to details on emergency contact home numbers/location
» maintenance of first aid room, adequately stocked and maintained first aid kit.
» Attempt to provide accredited sports trainers and first aiders at games and training sessions.
» Provide ongoing SportSafe education for members, coaches and players (ie. conduct sports medicine workshops and seminars)
» Actively promote and encourage the use of protective equipment including body padding and mouthguards (where applicable).
» Encourage members and supporters to wear suitable clothing and footwear at all times.
» Include warm up, stretching and cool down activities for all training and competition matches.
» Maintain playing surface areas and check before any training or competition for obstructions or potential dangers.
» Ensure all sporting equipment is well maintained and in good working order. Advise athletes to replace fluids before, during and after training and competition sessions, and to have their own water bottle.
» Encourage any athlete who has an illness or serious injury to seek a medical clearance before returning to training and competition.
» Consider the reasons for and appropriateness of any rules that prevent the implementation of SportSafe strategies.
» Review the SportSafe Policy annually.

Morley Cricket Club Smoke Free Policy
Morley Cricket Club (MCC) recognises that passive smoking is hazardous to health and that non-smokers should be protected from the involuntary inhalation of tobacco smoke.
Accordingly, the following policy devised by MCC applies to all members, staff, volunteers and participants of all MCC activities.
MANDATORY NON-SMOKING AREAS:
Smoking is prohibited in all indoor areas at all MCC activities.
All functions held by MCC will be smoke-free and no ashtrays will be placed anywhere in the building. No cigarettes will be sold on the premises. Appropriate non-smoking signs will be displayed.
SMOKING AREAS:
Smoking is only permitted outside MCC premises.
Morley Cricket Club Alcohol Policy
Morley Cricket Club (MCC) recognises that there are safe levels of alcohol consumption, however excessive consumption can be a major risk to the individual and public health and safety.
MCC also recognises the right of every individual to enjoy themselves in a safe, sociable, reliable and legal environment.
With this is mind, the following policy has been devised by MCC and will apply to all MCC activities where alcohol is served.
Alcohol will be served in accordance with the requirements set out in the Liquor Licensing Act 1998.
Excessive or rapid consumption of alcohol will be discouraged.
Drinking water will be made freely available.
Low-alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
Food will be offered at all times that alcohol is available.
Morley Cricket Club SunSmart Policy
The health of the community is of prime concern to us. We will actively seek to promote, encourage and support sun protection at all Morley Cricket Club (MCC) events.
Where possible Morley Cricket Club will:
» Schedule outdoor activities outside the hours of 10.30am to 2.30pm.
» Make SPF 30+ (or at least SPF 15+) broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen available for members and supporters wherever possible.
» Follow Cancer Foundation of WA guidelines for SunSmart clothing when choosing, designing or redesigning uniforms.
» Encourage members and supporters to wear a hat that complies with the Cancer Foundation of WA recommendations while participating in our activities.
» Make maximum use of existing shade at facilities. When shade is not adequate we will seek to work with relevant authorities and the community to provide more shade at sporting facilities; and will endeavour to provide temporary shade until adequate shade is provided.
» Review the SunSmart policy regularly.
